Gasket Papers
There are many different paper type materials used for Gaskets. From simple brown Kraft paper, to highly technical laminates used in electronics and instrument manufacture. The term is generally used for gasket sheeting materials that are not rubbers – and is often used to describe non-asbestos sheeting also, which we list separately.
In the UK, one of the most widely recognised materials is Flexoid, a cellulose based material with a plasticised gelatine binder. The same material is also sold under various trade names – Gaskoid, Sizoid, Statite amongst many others.
Other paper-like materials include beater grades – normally produced in roll form with specific fibre and binder blends using similar production processes to paper – often without the high pressure, hot vulcanising that non-asbestos sheeting production requires.
More technical papers include Nomex, Presspahn, Leatheroid, Fish Paper, Elephantide, DMD along with many plastic types including Polyesters, Kapton, Mylar etc. Most of these are specific to electrical applications – some materials are used purely as carriers for beaded gaskets.
