Originally installed to cut large, thick rubber components, this equipment is now also used to produce miniature parts – with holes from 0.15mm diameter through to 2mt x 3mt parts.
It enables us to cut any material – glass to brass, ceramic to stainless – to 200mm thick!
‘Gaskets’ are not the only things we cut by waterjet ! Items include granite work-tops, glass, plastic components, metal panels – we manufacture parts from children’s Toys to Guns and Spacecraft !
We use both pure water – or abrasive cutting machinery to cut at pressures up to 60,000 psi. The speed of the water at the nozzle is a staggering 3500 miles per hour (that’s 4.½ times the speed of sound!).
We produce CAD files for all parts cut on the water-jet – either from drawings or samples – this information is then run through a nesting program to ensure minimum wastage of material – and optimum cutting speed.
A typical working week could see us cutting Copper Head Gaskets, 25mm Belting Scraper Blades, 50mm Neoprene Gaskets, 6mm Glass Panels, 3mm Stainless Steel, Metal reinforced Mica and Graphite, 0.2mm thick Rubber parts, 32mm Aviation grade Aluminium, 20mm Rubber Gaskets, 100mm Foam parts, 0.25mm Non Asbestos Gaskets, Polyurethane Seals, 9mm Nylon shims, 12mm SRBF, 12mm Anti-vibration Cork Mounts – or even Silver loaded Silicone gaskets for specialist aerospace applications!
A wide range of materials can be cut with metals up to 200mm and softer materials such as foams up to 250mm and with a 2m x 3m bed, most materials can be accommodated. Water jet gaskets offer the highest tolerance possible, in the widest range of materials.
We also welcome customers to supply their own Free Issue materials for us to cut – we cut from any sheet size up to 2m x 3m – but more importantly can also cut from off-cuts or odd-shapes. Using photo-cad we can snap the material shape, then our nesting system overlays the parts required and ensures best possible fit and maximum material utilisation – with minimum waste.
